On Tuesday this week, Counselor Stephany Crisantos Valencia and Don Bui represented Coastline College at ECHS’s annual College Application Success Campaign. At this event, 44 seniors clicked “Submit” on their college applications to CSUs, UCs, and Coastline College, with everyone applying to Coastline for Summer/Fall 2022. To celebrate the students taking their next step on their academic journeys, Coastline Marketing gifted each a pennant.

The Early College HS Class of 2022 is projected to earn an average of over 25 Coastline transferable units by June 2022. 13 of the overall class of 45 seniors are candidates for completion of the full IGETC.

After a full academic year of ECHS operating almost entirely at a distance, this year’s in-person CASC showed a renewed energy for the campus. In the students’ “Thank you” portion of the presentation, Coastline staff and faculty received their gratitude. Our college’s presence continues to grow at ECHS and impact the students’ experience.

Early College High School is a college preparatory educational program strategically designed to fulfill and exceed University of California “a-g” admission.

The Early College High School Initiative in the United States allows students to receive a high school diploma and an associate degree, or up to two years of college credit, by taking a mixture of high school and college classes. This differs from dual enrollment, where students are enrolled in a traditional high school and take college classes, whereas early college students take high school classes in preparation for full college workloads. At early colleges, students also have fewer high school classes because some of their college classes replace their high school classes.  ECHS students spend their school day at college, and go to their home school occasionally for events such as football games, homecoming, and prom.

The ECHS Initiative began in 2002 with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, among others.

Today, more than 230 early colleges across 28 states serve 50,000+ students.
